More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.
Why do you think this is happening?
Is it a positive or a negative trend?
In this fast forwarding era, many people visit historical places and click picture of them instead of enjoying the place. This essay will explain the reason behind this and explain their negative impact of this trend.
First of all, looking forward to reason, people are keen to express their happiness by showing picture of their visit to friends and family, which make them stand to the rich and adventurist society. Moreover, they had already seen those places online or social media so view has been stored in their mind, such things keep them away to entertain their self by watching place but take their own picture. For example, I had visited Burj Khalifa on social media so when time come to visit rather then looking at the place I had click photograph to send my family to feel proud that I am standing in front of world tallest building.
On dark side of this trend, Firstly, those places loose their value and identity. Secondly, gifts from their ancestors had been vanished from modern generations. For instance, I had visited red fort in 2024 year and click my own memory. however, when I show that to my parents I have been asked about history of that fort and I was blank about it, afterwards my father told the whole story and I enjoyed.
In conclusion, visiting well-known places and creating their own memory has reason of stay away from rich society and social media exposure. While this situation keeping them away from their history and reducing identity of those places.
In these days and ages, people are visiting famous places very significantly but not for gathering information of that place, just to take photographs. I personally ponder that it is a negative development and in this essay I will discuss possible reason that why it is happening.
In the first place, one major reason for visitors to visiting well-known place for taking pictures is to follow the trend. As it is known, individuals are utilizing their time on social media platforms such as Instagram and Youtube. They easily find out popular locations where they can take photographs and post those photos on their social media accounts. Additionally, after posting such pictures on social accounts they shows other people that they have also explored the famous place. As an outcome, they found themselves satisfied after following the same trend which society is already following.
Furthermore, In my point of view, such type of mindset towards the popular places exploration is always a negative development. However, people capture photographs of themselves is one thing but they should also show their interest in the historic story also. Without taking knowledge about visited place, one can never understand its origin or historic value. Even they can not pass that information to the next generations also. For instance, There is one museum named City Palace in Udaipur, majority of tourists go there to capture photos without going inside to understand the history of that palace.
To summarize the above narratives, people visit well-known places in order to fit into the society by following trend but In my opinion it is a negative development as they are not interested about its historic value and that creates bad impact on the society.
In recent years, many tourists have prioritised capturing selfies over genuinely experiencing the places they visit. This phenomenon can be attributed to the influence of social media, the pursuit of social validation, and the changing nature of tourism. The overall impact of this trend is largely negative, in my opinion.
A primary reason for this behaviour is the rise of social media platforms, where individuals seek recognition through likes, shares, and comments. Tourists are often more focused on curating an online persona rather than appreciating cultural or historical significance. This is why they are more interested in capturing their own pictures rather than truly appreciating and experiencing a tourist spot. They want to show people that they have been to a place rather than exploring the culture and way of life of that place. Furthermore, modern tourism is increasingly driven by visual content, as popular destinations are frequently marketed through aesthetically pleasing images, encouraging visitors to replicate these visuals rather than immerse themselves in their surroundings.
In my opinion, this is largely a negative trend as it diminishes the cultural and educational value of travel. Instead of learning about historical landmarks or engaging with local communities, tourists often remain preoccupied with achieving the perfect photograph. Furthermore, this behaviour contributes to overcrowding and environmental degradation. Many travellers flock to scenic spots purely for social media content, leading to excessive foot traffic and pollution. For example, iconic sites like Machu Picchu have implemented visitor restrictions due to damage caused by excessive tourism.
In conclusion, the increasing tendency to prioritise photographs over genuine experiences stems from the influence of social media and the evolving nature of tourism. However, this trend undermines the essence of travel and leads to environmental concerns.
