I was able to resonate with my life with this book as it clearly captured the confusion and doubt of being a teenager. Holden’s search for truth in a world full of lies mirrored my own struggles that I came across as a teenager. Moreover, it made me think about what I stand for and who I want to be.

A recent announcement in your magazine for an upcoming article of yours, titled “The book that influenced me most”, has motivated me to write a few words about a book that had influenced my thoughts very significantly. The name of the book is "My Journey to a Bigger Journey".
The book was about how a person from a very “humble” family background eventually became the president of a country. It was more like a “biography”, and the author, and also the main character in the book, so beautifully wrote about his struggles and life experience before reaching the pinnacle of success. The book also has many motivating stories and pieces of useful advice.
Until I read the book, I had a habit of virtually blaming anything and everything around me for the bad or negative things that were happening to me. As a result of this, I couldn’t really see my own shortcomings or my faults that were hindering my success. But, after reading that book, I finally got a chance to look at myself – my own negative thoughts and behaviour problems that are – and thereby changing my overall outlook on the world and people around me.
So, it was a great book indeed, and if it could change a negative person like me, it sure could change many others as well.

I am writing in response to a call for submissions on the subject of books that have influenced us. I would like to mention Jack Kerouac’s classic road novel, On the Road , which shaped my life like no other.
In case you have not read it, On the Road is the tale of one man’s adventures crossing the United States in the late 1940s. It is a frenetic and exciting journey, but also fraught with troubles. It tends to excite in young people a passion for travel, and I was no different. As a young man, I read this book and immediately wanted to take off for my own voyages in my own country, and since then I have been constantly in love with life on the road.
For more than a half-century, this novel has shaped the lives of countless people in dozens of countries and I suspect it will continue to do so for decades to come. It has inspired poets and authors and musicians with its notions of freedom and enthusiasm, and I think that those readers of yours that are not yet familiar should seek it out and give it a chance.
