I am Prakhar, and I work as an IT infrastructure manager in the Zeus IT group next to your ‘Enriched Texture’ mobile shop and I am writing this letter to bring to your notice a deplorable event relevant to my recent purchase from your shop.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S27 from your mobile store two weeks ago and was extremely with my new purchase. However, my happiness didn’t last for long as right from the second day, my phone has been turning off each time I switched it on. I am extremely this purchase, and above that, your staff seems to have my complaints. I talked to one of your representatives last week, where he assured me of the resolution of the issue only to have switched his phone off post that.

I implore you to arrange a callback and effectively resolve my complaint.

Yours faithfully, Prakhar Panchbhaiya

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.0

The letter covers the introduction, fault and requested callback with a clear complaint purpose. Its main weakness is imprecise or exaggerated wording, including remorseful and exulted in this context. The account of the representative switching off his phone also needs a clearer subject to avoid ambiguity.

IELTS criteria

How each score was decided

Task Achievement

7.0

The letter clearly covers all three bullet points from the prompt, including self-introduction, explanation of the faulty phone and ignored complaint, and a requested callback, in a mostly appropriate formal register, though tone occasionally slips into exaggerated phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion

7.0

Ideas progress logically from introduction to situation to request, with effective use of cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'above that', despite some slightly strained transitions.

Lexical Resource

7.0

A wide and ambitious range of vocabulary is demonstrated, but items like 'deplorable event', 'exulted', and 'remorseful' are imprecise or misused for the context, with occasional spelling issues such as 'mam'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

7.0

Complex clauses and varied verb forms convey the complaint with generally good control. In the final sentence of the explanation, only to have switched his phone off leaves the subject of that action unclear. Stating explicitly what the representative did would improve the sentence’s precision.
