Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing this letter in response to a recent vacancy announcement at your museum in which you have asked for people to do part-time voluntary or unpaid work. I would like to work for your museum as a volunteer, and I am hoping that you would give me the opportunity. I am interested in because I think that it would allow me to in the future. Besides, it would also help me understand many important parts of my country’s history which I would probably never know otherwise. Regarding my skills, I have good computer skills, and I also know how to work well . Besides, to help me understand and appreciate the value of artworks. , I also live close to your museum which would really make it easy for me to commute. So, if you choose to for this voluntary position, I will work hard to add value to your team. I am available to work every day from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm except on Sunday, and if you decide to hire me, I can start right away. I am hoping to hear a positive response from you. Yours faithfully, Joseph Myer

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.0

The letter covers all three requested points with a clear purpose, relevant skills and precise availability. Its generally polite tone suits an application. The main limitations are the single-block layout, repetitive wording and some imprecise expressions, including “great skills” and the verb pattern with “availing”. Separating the sections and tightening these phrases would make the letter easier to read.

IELTS criteria

How each score was decided

TA Task Achievement

8.0

The letter clearly achieves its purpose, covers all three bullets with specific, developed detail such as availability from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and relevant skills, and maintains an appropriately formal tone throughout.

CC Coherence and Cohesion

7.0

Ideas follow the three requested points in a logical sequence, but the entire letter is presented as one block. Separate paragraphs for motivation, skills and availability would improve navigation; repeated additive links such as “Besides” also make the progression somewhat mechanical.

LR Lexical Resource

6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task, with some precise collocations like 'vacancy announcement' and 'team environment', but the range is limited by reliance on informal filler such as 'great opportunity' and repeated 'great'.

GRA Grammatical Range and Accuracy

7.0

A variety of complex structures, including conditional and relative clauses, is used with generally good control, though occasional wordiness and minor awkwardness, such as 'I am interested in availing this great opportunity', reduce flexibility.
