Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.5

The letter is fluent and logically organised, with a courteous formal tone and relevant reasons for applying. The history background and previous volunteering support the skills point, but the availability paragraph needs usable days and hours. Following the prescribed salutation, correcting the sign-off, and removing the false backward reference to the degree would make the application more precise and consistent.

IELTS criteria

How each score was decided

TA Task Achievement

7.0

The letter addresses motivation, relevant skills and availability in a courteous formal register. “During the weekdays” needs more precise hours or days to be useful, and the opening does not follow the explicitly required “Dear Sir or Madam” salutation.

CC Coherence and Cohesion

7.0

The paragraphs progress logically from purpose to motivation, skills and availability. However, “As already mentioned” falsely presents the art-history degree as previously stated, and “this opportunity” followed by “in this position” creates avoidable repetition.

LR Lexical Resource

8.0

Vocabulary is flexible and precise, with phrases like 'passionate admirer of art and cultural heritage' and 'keen eye for detail', showing good awareness of style and collocation.

GRA Grammatical Range and Accuracy
