Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 6.5

The response covers both visuals with an accurate selection of key figures and a clear overview of car use dominance. Its main limitation is occasionally awkward or imprecise wording and some mechanical linking, which slightly reduce the clarity of otherwise well-organised reporting.

IELTS criteria

How each score was decided

Task Achievement

7.0

The response provides a clear overview, accurately reports the main figures from both the pie chart (45%, 35%, 10%) and the bar/table data, and makes relevant comparisons, with only minor lapses such as the unsupported claim that bus and taxi 'are not preferred'.

Coherence and Cohesion

6.5

Progression is generally clear with logical paragraphing and workable cohesive devices, but linking is at times mechanical ('To begin with', 'Moving towards') and some referencing is imprecise.

Lexical Resource

6.5

Vocabulary is adequate for the task with some attempted variety, but phrases like 'at its zenith', 'the bar graph display the reasons' and 'multiple reasons why people drive cars for work-commuting purposes' show imprecise or awkward usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

6.5

A range of structures is attempted, though errors such as 'The bar graph display', 'the second highest use is LRT... which is at its zenith', and a very long final sentence are noticeable without seriously impeding meaning.
