The provided diagram outlines the manufacturing process of instant noodles, comprising several distinct stages.

Overall, the intricate process involves eight distinct steps, starting with the transportation of flour and concluding with the packaging of the noodles. Additionally, the production of noodle cups incorporates a set of essential ingredients – flour, water, oil, and spices.

Initially, flour is delivered to the factory and stored in tower silos. Then, it is combined with water and oil in a mixing machine, which results in a mixture that is rolled into dough sheets. Subsequently, these dough sheets are passed through a machine to form . Following that, these strips are molded into noodle discs. The next phases involve cooking the noodle discs and . The last two steps deal with the packing of the noodles.

In the ensuing steps, the noodles are arranged in cups and flavored with a mixture of spices and vegetables. Finally, to indicate the completion of the elaborate process, the cups are sealed and labeled. After it’s finished, the instant noodles are sent to stores so people can eat them.

Overall assessment

Why this response received Band 7.0

The response gives a complete, well-sequenced account of the process with a clear overview and accurate coverage of the main stages. The main limitation is a slight drift away from the diagram at the end, including an unsupported comment about noodles being sent to stores, alongside occasional informality and wordiness.

IELTS criteria

How each score was decided

TA Task Achievement

7.0

The response covers all eight stages in the correct order with a clear overview of the process from flour delivery to packaging, though the final sentence about distribution to stores is not shown in the diagram and the packing stage is slightly loosely described.

CC Coherence and Cohesion

7.0

The response is logically organised with a clear progression and a good range of sequencing devices, although a few transitions such as 'In the ensuing steps' are somewhat stilted and the last sentence weakens cohesion by shifting from report to commentary.

LR Lexical Resource

7.0

Vocabulary is sufficiently flexible and process-appropriate, with terms like 'storage silos', 'dough sheets' and 'noodle discs', but occasional imprecise or wordy phrasing such as 'the intricate process' and 'the elaborate process' reduces precision.

GRA Grammatical Range and Accuracy

7.0

The response uses a range of passive and active structures with generally good grammatical control. The singular count noun “vegetable” needs a plural form in the ingredient list. The contraction “it’s” is grammatically valid, although the final sentence is less suitable in register and content for this report.
